:: chinese culture ::
today was the full dress rehearsal for cny. first up were the chinese orchestra. they were very good man. i think it would take super alot of practises to get to their standard. for CLDDS, it was quite average. but i think we have the potential to go further. so keep trying guys!
actually, i just finished watching a serial on tv. this serial was talking about this family that is reunited after the daughter was lost for several years. at first, i was quite touched. then i began to think. the chinese do value family ties much much more than themselves. i feel that this is really the pride and acme of our culture as the chinese are very united. this can also be seen in world war two when our forefathers gathered together to pool whatever little money they have back to china to help the chinese fight the war against the japanese. you would think that they are in singapore for so long, they would have began to grow their roots in the singapore soil. but no! they are still thinking about their families in china. this is why i m proud to be chinese. unlike the americans, whose divorce rate is enormously high, i would rather appreciate a complete family.
another thing that i have been thinking about is about the feminist movement. i do agree that for one, the female counterpart is as capable as the male species. however, alot of times, God has given us different capabilities for a reason. like for example, the singapore political field is very much male dominated. this could be due to the age old idea that the male is always the strong one in the family, and the female is always subservient. thus, we always look up to the male as the decision maker and the pillar of support. this could even be seen in families where the dad takes the leading role is bringing up the kids to adulthood. if the mum were to take the role instead, there will be an upset of balance in order in the family. nonetheless, mother's bring up boys, fathers bring up men. hence, both are blessed with different capabilities for a purpose.
